About

Servicemembers have called Lynn Haven home since 1911, when it was founded as a Union Veterans Colony. Veterans of the Spanish American War settled in the area a few years later, and military families still love this town today. A warm climate, fertile soil, and the picturesque backdrop of the North Bay are all perks of the area. Lynn Haven enjoys a reputation for being family-friendly and has some of the area’s most desirable schools. A vibrant downtown, abundant shopping, and the small-town feel also draw a lot of military families.

You’ll find a significant military population in Lynn Haven, as well as many working class Floridians and retirees.

Neighborhood Feel

Lynn Haven offers a bit more space at more affordable prices than Panama City or PCB. You’re not on the Gulf here, but North Bay offers plenty of waterfront access. There’s a suburban vibe, replete with soccer moms, recreation centers, and bustling neighborhood playgrounds.

Lynn Haven is much quieter than its neighbors on the beach, and doesn’t have the daily tourist-woes and traffic to contend with.

Desirable schools, family-friendly businesses and activities, and an affordable housing market are all perks to living in Lynn Haven.  

Things to Consider

Though daily “around town” traffic is light, although commuting to NSA Panama City or Tyndall AFB can be problematic. Be sure you’re aware of the traffic situation and how that can compound your commute during certain months.

Lynn Haven isn’t on the beach, so you’ll be commuting and competing with millions of others to get there. Spend some time to learn the backroads and “secret” beaches. Tyndall AFB has a fantastic (and private) beach.

The heat is a fact of life in Northwest Florida and escaping it in Lynn Haven can be tricky. There aren’t a ton of indoor activities (museums, galleries, etc…), so getting out of the heat during the day is hard.

BDS works closely with military families and offers the opportunity to pre-register military children for school.

The most common options offered by School Choice programs include open enrollment, home education, private schools, and charter schools.

BDS has a dress code with uniforms for all schools.
