Duke Field is one of Eglin Air Force Base’s many auxiliary fields (there are ten of them) and is home to the 919th Special Operations Wing — the only Air Force Reserve unit in Air Force Special Operations Command. Army folks will know Duke Field as the home of 7th Special Forces Group.

Duke Field is located three miles south of Crestview’s business district and roughly 15 miles north of Eglin AFB’s main base area. Being a small airfield—not a base on its own—military families will find themselves traveling to Eglin AFB for services like the commissary and doctor appointments. A small shoppette and lodging is available at Duke Field, but not much else.

Military members have several options when it comes to choosing a place to live near Duke Field. Crestview is the closest inland community and boasts a popular commercial district and affordable homes—ranging from condos to single family homes on wooded lots. If you’re looking for a beach community, don’t let distance dissuade you. Commuting from a coastal town like Niceville can take as little as 20 minutes on the Spence Parkway.
