About
Pooler began as a railway town and was the last stop before Savannah on the Central of Georgia Railway line. Since then it has rapidly grown into a major center for commercial development in Southeast Georgia and its population increased threefold from 2000 to 2010. Pooler is generally considered one of the safest cities in Georgia. There is a true sense of community, which is attractive to those who work (or play) in Savannah but don’t want to live in the city.
Aside from living in Savannah, Pooler is the next closest option to Hunter Army Airfield. North Pooler is home to Tanger Outlet Mall and commuting around this shopping mecca will add at least ten minutes to your commute. South Pooler is attractive because of its proximity to Hunter AAF, and the ability to bypass the outlet traffic. Overall, Pooler is a very family friendly town with modern conveniences at your fingertips. You can get anywhere around town within 20 minutes, and there are chain restaurants on every corner.
Neighbors
The major employer in Pooler is Gulfstream Aerospace, which builds the world’s most advanced aircraft. Military spouses in the greater Savannah area guestimate that your neighbors have a 30 percent chance of being in the military, giving the area a more local feel. Your kids will still go to school with other military brats, but they won’t be in the majority.
Neighborhood Feel
There are plenty of housing options in Pooler. Typically, you’ll find two-story homes with some sort of loft and/or a family room. On average, a single family home rents anywhere from $1,650 to $1,800. Most of the neighborhoods are filled with cookie-cutter homes that have little yard space, but make up for it with community pools, playgrounds, and tennis courts. These amenities come with HOA fees, but they help make the dog days of summer so much more enjoyable.
